Weekend in Bali

Bali holds fantastic memories for me. I enjoyed my times surfing the waves at Kuta and riding aimlessly with my ex-housemates. Or with my ex-colleagues and friends pigging out and drinking along the coasts. Most memorable was my stay at U-bud during which I climbed Bali’s most sacred mountain, Gunung Agung, after a midnight prayer at the island’s Mother temple, Pura Bersakih. In October, I spent a weekend in Bali in a group of seven friends and it was a very different experience. We booked a three-bedroom villa at C151 Smart Villas in Seminyak for a relaxing weekend, and boy was it!

We payed around SGD750 (about USD615) a night for the villa. Upon arriving and checking in, we were ferried to your villa on a buggy which rightly suggested how expansive the whole compound was. We got the nearest villa, Villa 1, which incidentally was the villa which is prominently featured on their website. The website photos got us pretty excited prior to our trip, but I was a little skeptical I must admit. I shouldn’t have been because the villa was truly as featured on the images. Plus there is much that images can’t describe which makes the villa even better as what you see and read on the website.

The villa has a huge living room with an adjoining dining table for six. A bar, good for three, separates the kitchen from the dining space. The kitchen comes fully equipped with stove, fridge, microwave, oven and all the crockery and utensils you’ll ever need. The three bedrooms are all en-suite with attached bathrooms and all open up on the swimming pool. One of the bedrooms has a massage bed and a steam room. The bathroom of what seems to be the master bedroom has the biggest bathroom with a two-person jacuzzi. The swimming pool was the highlight for me as it is pretty deep for its size. At 1.7m deep, it is very enticing for flips. The whole place is heavily technologically geared. The Bose sound system with a Yamaha amp was excellent. They even have an outdoor Bose speaker which provided great outdoor surround sound. All rooms come equipped with flat-screen TVs. Even the toilets had TVs. Talking about toilets, they were fully automatic complete with sensors, which reminded me a lot of Tokyo. The service was very responsive and prompt. At no time during our stay did they fail us. Breakfast was served hot and the place was cleaned everyday by a team of four people. The images I took below do not do it justice, but they do give a glimpse of what you can expect at C151 Smart Villas, Seminyak.

Bali is Singapore’s backyard. The island however is a lot more than Kuta and it’s party scene. Next time, use your weekend in Bali wisely and try the peace and quiet for a change.
